Texas Hold’em has, over the last 20 years or so, emerged from the Las Vegas casinos to become the dominant form of poker in the 21st century.
A large part of its appeal is that it is a deceptively simple game whose rules can be learnt in just a few hands. But, at the same time, Hold’em is a game of cunning, skill and infinite variety, enjoyed by experts as well as poker beginners.
The rich subtleties of its betting rounds allows for a wealth of depth in the strategy and tactics of its gameplay – and yet the turn of a card can see a relative novice oust a senior pro.
For these reasons Hold’em is the game of choice for millions of poker players globally. The biggest prize pools in sport aren’t in boxing, football, F1 or US sport: Texas Hold’em’s big tournament pots dwarf anything else on the planet.
If you watch poker on TV, or see it played in modern movies, the chances are you’ll be watching Texas Hold’em.
ATR Poker Club offers three varieties of Hold’Em: Limit, where betting is restricted by the size of the big blind (the first betting stake); Pot Limit; where it’s restricted by the size of the pot, and No Limit, where your bets are only limited by the size of your chip stack.
The all-in raise, an inevitably spectacular play demanding nerve, psychological awareness and an acute understanding of the odds on offer, is an intrinsic reason for No Limit Hold’em’s enduring appeal.
